Software & Systems Policy

The following principles apply when dealing with software and client systems.

Access to Systems
  • The client or system owner will be required to provide appropriate access to the system in question for the purposes of troubleshooting as directed by Mughal Computer Services Personnel.
  • Access will need to be authorised by the client and will involve giving permission to Mughal Computer Services personnel to create, modify, use or unlock any computer account which will help in completion of the task requested.
  • Any user accounts with administrator privileges will require passwords to be changed prior to the system being handled by Mughal Computer Services personnel. Passwords can then be changed back once the system has been returned to the client/system owner.
Operating Systems
  • Any requests for an operating system to be installed will be re-installed subject to being inspected for software compliance.
  • Software compliance will be deemed to have been met subject to the following conditions:
  • Unlicensed, cracked or pirated copies of operating systems will not be installed under any circumstances.
  • Supported operating systems will be re-installed on the system drive only (usually C drive).
  • Internal hardware with readily available drivers will also be installed; although there is no guarantee that all hardware will have drivers installed for each and every system handled by Mughal Computer Services personnel.
Third Party Software
  • Unless explicately agreed and requested in writing or by email, Mughal Computer Services personnel will not be responsible for installing any 3rd party software that may have been installed prior to the system being handled.
  • It is the duty of the client/system owner to ensure they have the appropriate media, installation files and licenses either backed up or otherwise stored to enable the software in question to be re-installed either by themselves or on request by Mughal Computer Services personnel.
  • Software is deemed to be 3rd party unless it fits into the following categories:
    • System security patches and updates - this does not cover applications which are part of a security update.
    • Optional software available as part of the operating system - this covers the original version as supplied only.
Data Backup
  • Unless explicately agreed and requested in writing or by email, Mughal Computer Services personnel will not be responsible for any data backup.
  • It is the duty of the client/system owner to ensure they have taken backups of any important data, such as their documents and other files (favourites, ftp sites, shortcuts etc).
  • If agreed, Mughal Computer Services personnel will back up data from the system once the client/system owner has supplied a list of data to be backed up.
  • Data will be backed up on to CD or DVD as appropriate depending on the capabilities of the system being handled.
  • Media cost per single optical disc is as follows:
    • £1.00 for each CD required
    • £3.00 for each DVD required
Testimonials

Avatar"Imran has helped with a number of issues I've had with my computer and with my broadband connection. He installed a new broadband modem for me, and also helped me to get online to play World of Warcraft, whilst cleaning up my PC in the process.

His work is both prompt and efficient."
N. Charity, Totteridge
